Site Utilities Manager, Pontiac North                                                                     2009-2011

Responsible for Site-Wide Utilities budget of $22M (electric, natural gas, compressed air, water).  Supervise 12 powerhouse/chiller/WTP operating engineers, 2 Energy Conservation Engineers.  Reduced excess Energy consumption in metal fabrication/warehouse facility by $1.7M using common techniques.  Converted steam/compressed air powerhouse on site for $360,000 annual savings.  

Utilities Group Manager, Energy Utilities & Services Group                               2006-2009

Oversaw 15 Site Utility Managers/Energy Conservation Engineers in the Metal Fab Division.  Responsible for plant utilities budget of over $120M (electric, natural gas, compressed air, water).

·      American Society of Energy Engineers Award - Relighting Warehouse Division.  Installed over 33,000 high efficiency fluorescent lamps using unique 3rd party financing process. Made installation under existing utilities budget without project monies.  Realized annual savings of $7 million/year.

Program Manager, Programs & Services Group                                                  2001-2006

Performed integrated planning, business development, common programs, project management and communications to divisions in the GM Asia Pacific region.  Communicate programs with corporate staff, divisions and manufacturing plant executive personnel.

·      Formed the existing facilities organization in place at the GM Holden division in Australia. 

·      Chairman’s Honor and Vehicle Operations (GMVO) Recognition Award - As team leader on the GMVO “Manufacturing Walk” development Team.  Created and implemented in a “Trade Show” format a series of displays reviewed by management, board of directors, and outside stakeholders of General Motors. 

·      General Motors WFG “Crew” Award - Worldwide Facilities Group for, participation in the Buick City Closing Tax Abatement Team.  This activity garnered over $4M in property tax savings.

Regional Manager, Plant Decommissioning Group                                              1998-2001

Responsible for decommissioning projects in the Michigan Region.  Manage seven Site Managers for projects encompassing approximately 12 million square feet of manufacturing space and appropriations of $121 million.  Responsibilities include tax abatements, customer relations, general and project management.   

·      Developed business plan for plant decommissioning that allowed GM to gain revenue ( >$1.00/sqr ft) in lieu of  paying >$15.00/ sqr ft for plant demolition.  This program is now a corporate common process

·      General Motors Chairman's Honor Award - Worldwide Facilities Group for, “Leading the project team that set-up a 1600-employee transition center for the V-8 Engine and Buick City bargaining unit employees.”  This center was completed and ready for occupancy in forty-five days and was the largest of its kind in GM history.

·      General Motors Special Achievement Award-North American Operations Manufacturing (NAO) Center for, “developing a partnership between the Permit Group and NAO Paint Engineering; developing and implementing a corporate program for Title V requirements of the Clean Air Act; and also continuing to partner with Worldwide Purchasing in the area of Chemicals Management implementation.”

  • Oversaw the first perfect  (zero potential problems/out of code comments) environmental audit report for an assembly plant in General Motor's history. 
  • Incorporated the Truck division's Pollution Prevention program into the business plan, performed cost/benefit analyses estimates for upper management. Environmental Auditor/Project Engineer Environmental Activities Staff,         1979-1985

Performed regulatory and engineering compliance evaluations at GM plants in the US and Canada. Air and water quality regulations, waste and hazardous materials handling and disposal, OSHA noise control and abatement, safety inspection records, and energy conservation. Responsibilities include reviewing and commenting on proposed legislation/regulations; coordinating plant/divisional/staff water pollution control projects and policies; interfacing technically with trade and professional associations and regulatory agencies; providing technical assistance to plants and divisions. Authored the Quality Control/Quality Assurance manual for wastewater treatment plant laboratory operators in Michigan. Manual became the core textbook used for training by the MDNR.

Process Engineer/Foreman/Wastewater Treatment Plant Supervisor,              1976-1979

GM Fisher Body Division, Elyria, Ohio     

Supervisor of 1.2 MGD Metal Finishing wastewater treatment plant discharging to the Black River. Responsible for an annual administrative budget of $350,000 and a staff of 9 full-time bargaining unit (UAW) employees. Managed hourly employees, equalized overtime, resolved grievances, compiled state and federal monthly operation reports. Managed and supervised wastewater collection and treatment operations in the electroplating and metal finishing category, training UAW laboratory technicians and operators in wastewater analyses and laboratory QC/QA programs. Wrote an internal paper on ozonalysis treatment of electroless copper-contaminated wastewater (unpublished). Performed analyses and reporting tasks without use of an outside, contracted laboratory
